Here is a quick recap of what I have been up to:

First was a book about Rock and Roll! It was a collection of poems so I got to experiment with some different styles.

Then I did a book about a little boy who finds a dead spider and decides it will be his best fiend. Unfortunately he plays to rough and by the end of the book the spider's dead body barely exists.

Finally, I did a book dummy that was pitched to Random House called "Dead Friends." It was a little morbid and gruesome and a lot of hilarious and awesome. I had a ton of fun on it and really hope it will get picked up soon.

This is my small tribute to the great Cannon Beach surf shop. They are a great bunch of guys who really help out the community in a big way. The design is a variation on their logo and the style is all mine. I am going to give this to them this afternoon. I hope that they will enjoy and that I will get to see it on their wall.

The Amazing Mango and Dango!

Mango and Dango made a special stop into the studio yesterday. As you can see, my daughter was super excited to meet them. It was so much fun and I am glad that we are working together.

In an earlier post I mentioned that we met very briefly at the Washington state fair where they were preforming their amazing two person circus act! I made a drawing of them and from there we have started a small comic book. The book will be sold at their shows as well as their website.

Here is an illustration from a recent job that I just finished. It is about a cactus who dreams of being a professional boxer. In the end, his thorns are used to heal his opponent and not hurt them (hence the happy look on the blonde's face). It was a fun book so I thought I would share a little from it.

Getting a hair cut has always made me a little nervous. It may have been the time that my Mom shaved a bald spot into the back of my head or the time when the barber cut off my sideburn. Who knows... maybe getting a hair cut from a monster with pumped up kicks would make it all better.

It was so mesmerizing to see them on their stilts riding a bike and being inspiring. I just had to draw them . . . so I did and this is what came from it.

Dear Japan

When the Tsunami struck Japan this spring a group called Art Ehon contacted me and many other children's book artists to participate in making a picture book of hope for the children of Japan. This was also important to me as the Tsunami reached my little town on the Oregon coast 2 days before my daughter was born. We evacuated and were so nervous that our little baby would come on that day when we had no hospital to go to. I can only imagine how the people and especially the children of Japan felt with the major destruction that happened there.

Art Ehon was kind enough to send me pictures of a show of the exhibit that was put on in Bologna, Italy. There will be more shows to raise awareness and generate donations to help the families of those effected.Here is a photo of the show in Bologna.

Peter Pan Progress

Here something that I have been very busy working on this week. I lost track of how many hours in I am, but this is shown at 5% of the actual size to give you an idea. You may be able to recognize what is going on just from this background, but if not, this is the first half of the flight to neverland. This is loosely based on a Hans Christian Andersen story about a Sapling that grows in the shade of a Fir. It is frustrating and difficult to grow when the Sapling can't get sun or rain, but eventually he becomes strong through adversity.

Today is my Birthday

Today is my birthday and so, for the month leading up to it I grew a mustache. My parents gave my wife and I this really cool kite for Christmas. You just attach the string, it opens up and picks up the breeze almost instantly. I love it. It also helps living next to one of the greatest kite flying spots that I know of. I love Cannon Beach!

I like cats. I can't say I am a cat person rather than a dog person, but I have only had one dog in my entire life and a whole lot of cats.

I had a secret cat in college. We weren't allowed to have pets in the apartment but when I saw this little kitty I knew I had to have him. He was beautiful... all white with bright blue eyes. I called him Capo.

George in the UK is getting published!

George in the UK is being published by Higher Ground Press! I wrote and illustrated this book as my final project for my bachelor in fine arts degree last year. It is a dream come true to see George becoming a real book! It will be out in bookstores and online for sale this coming Spring!

Higher Ground Press has also hired me to illustrate two other books that will also be released next year.
